Commissioned, 2017
In 2011, the Arab Spring started. I was working in a first-aid community at the time, while Gaddafi was being killed in Tripoli, Libya. I remember that moment as something historic — the first time I truly felt I was part of something larger. I can still hear the cheers of many of the migrants living there: Nigerians, Somalis, Eritreans, Afghans. It was a moment that begged to be photographed — everyone gathered in the dining hall, celebrating. But I didn’t have a camera with me, so I let it pass, telling myself: one day I’ll make a series about migrants. This series of portraits was born after 5 years, in Turin, and tells about 10 people photographed during a moment of guided meditation.
